Even the most die-hard Apple fans can admit that Google Maps is a better navigation app, you could even argue that Google Assistant is better than Siri even. When Apple finally opened up the Apple CarPlay ecosystem to third party navigation apps like Google Maps and Waze they were able to alleviate one of the top concerns users had with CarPlay.

While Google Maps was a much-welcomed addition to Apple CarPlay functionality, Apple did not allow voice control with Siri which diminished the hands-free experience. Instead you would either have manually enter in your destination or there is a voice command button (restricted to only Google Map functions) on the far right of the screen.

However, during the 2019 CES show Google announced that would now include Google Assistant integration into Google Maps on iOS. Manuel Bronstein the VP of Product, Google Assistant said, “Starting to roll out today, the Assistant can help you navigate in Google Maps for Android and iOS. With just your voice, you’ll be able to share your ETA with friends and family, reply to text messages, play music and podcasts, search for places along your route, add a new stop and auto-punctuate your message.”

To try this out just head to the Apple App Store and download the most recent version of Google Maps.
